Zen Horses is a collection of new songs from Sander Hicks, a spoken word artist, independent publisher, and songwriter. Hicks writes sing-along indie punk/folk music. Hicks is influenced by the poets and singers he published as founder of Soft Skull Press.
The material in Zen Horses touches on Occupy Wall Street, the increased police presence in NYC, the questions many have about 9/11. Hicks also records his experiences with wild women, revolutionaries, and new discoveries in Zen Buddhism.
Jazz legend Sam Morrison sits in with Hicks on several tracks, on alto flute and sax (Morrison is best known as a veteran of the Miles Davis band.) The songs were produced by Tom DelFavero, who also played bass, drums and lead guitar.
Zen Horses comes out simultaneously with the publication of Hicks' new book, "Slingshot to the Juggernaut: Total Resistance to the Death Machine Means Complete Love of the Truth."
